The Call of the Virgin – The Summer Solstice

The Call of the Virgin

The Summer Solstice

24 of December, 2017

How beautiful it is to see the southern hemisphere celebrate the Summer Solstice along with this holiday called Christmas, representing the birth of a Holy Child.

However, before Mary, there are countless mythologies that tell legends about the union of a “virgin” or “maiden” - which means “not married”, or even “without union with the male”, “not linked to the masculine” - to a divine or unusual being. Together they bring transformation to human life, often through a Divine Child.

There are Egyptian, Greek, Sumerian, Native American, Asian, and other legends that repeat almost the same story: how the union of a young woman with a mythical being brings to humans some power that did not exist before, such as fire, agriculture, fishing at sea, abundance. In Christian mythology, when Mary agrees to give birth to the divine child, we are presented with the messenger of a New Age. Looking at the historical moment, there was enormous intolerance towards people considered minorities: women, slaves, Hebrews, people who were considered criminals. We can see that this hasn't changed much in the last two thousand years.

This New Age brings the divine message "Love one another", as the Holy Man - Jesus- said, he who is a messenger of the Feminine. And the message is to love everyone.

However ... What a difficult task it is, in this global moment. We see a backlash of intolerance, violence, exclusion and conservatism taking place, often done in the name of religions like Christianity, which was created around symbols so powerful and ever so poorly understood.

To love - regardless of race, color, creed, sexual orientation, political opinion, choices, opinions. To love crooks and judges, the corrupt and correct. Loving was the message of this Being, who is considered Holy by so many in our current world.

Mary, the young maiden, said YES to the message. Do we say yes to the call of the Sacred Feminine and Divine Love? With all our justifications for hatred and violence, the Holy Man's message may still take many generations to be understood.

May this Solstice make it possible for each of us to understand everyone better. May we receive the Divine Call of the Feminine and become more understanding, more loving, more tolerant. May Christmas be blessed by all the mythological divine creatures that populate the human soul and psyche.
